Quality Policy of the Academic Unit

Quality Policy of the Academic Unit Regulation

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of West Attica (UniWA), in collaboration with the University’s Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) and other institutional services, has adopted a Quality Policy fully aligned with that of the University (as approved by the Senate during its 4th extraordinary session on May 8, 2020).

The core objective of the Department’s Master’s Programs (MSc) is to cultivate and support the next generation of professionals in the  sector. Through advanced postgraduate education, these programs aim to equip graduates with the skills to apply cutting-edge scientific knowledge in real-world professional  settings, thereby promoting innovation and the adoption of modern advancements in the field. The Department aspires for its Master’s Programs to achieve top-tier national recognition in their respective disciplines.

The Quality Policy underpins the academic and scientific integrity of the Master’s Programs, ensuring they consistently deliver high standards in education, research, and operational effectiveness. These efforts are guided by international academic benchmarks and the best practices of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), in full compliance with the framework of the National Authority for Higher Education and prevailing national legislation.

Strategic Objectives of the Quality Policy

The Department’s Quality Policy is structured around key strategic goals, aimed at the continuous development and enhancement of its Master’s Programs. These include:

  • Ongoing review and improvement of curricula to reflect the latest academic and professional trends relevant to each field of study.

  • Design and delivery of learning outcomes aligned with the European and National Qualifications Frameworks for Higher Education.

  • Promotion of student-centered learning, fostering a supportive academic environment that enhances student engagement and performance.

  • Commitment to transparency, ensuring the timely and accurate dissemination of information to both the academic community and the broader public.

  • Fostering internal collaboration, particularly with other departments within the University of West Attica.

  • Strengthening external relations, including active engagement with the labor market and industry stakeholders.

Implementation and Continuous Improvement

To ensure the effective implementation of its Quality Policy, the Department conducts an annual review and internal audit of its quality assurance system. These evaluations are carried out by the Department’s Quality Assurance and Enhancement Office (OMEA), in coordination with MODIP.

Communication and Engagement

The Quality Policy is clearly communicated to all relevant stakeholders, who are encouraged to actively support and uphold its principles. All new Master’s students are introduced to the Department’s Quality Policy at the outset of their studies, as part of their orientation process.
