
ATHANASIA VARVARESOU

Athanasia Varvaresou is Professor of Development of Pharmaceutical, Cosmetic and Medical Devices products. She has studied Pharmacy and possesses a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, NKUA. She has been working as principal investigator in clinical studies regarding efficacy of cosmetic products and as consultant in development of new products. She is the co-author of 46 research articles, with total IF (ISI) 46 and h index Scopus 15. She was member of two committees of PhD thesis and eleven Master thesis. She is the supervisor of a PhD thesis. She is teaching in 5 postgraduate programs (Department of Biomedical Sciences UNIWA, Medical NKUA, Faculty of Pharmacy NKUA) She is member of the Laboratory of Chemistry-Biochemistry-Cosmetic Science. Biomedical Sciences, UNIWA. She is the Director of the postgraduate program «Advanced Aesthetics and Cosmetic Science, Development, Quality Control and Safety of cosmetic products”. She has been member of Scientific Committee for Consumer Safety (SCCS). Her research interests are synthesis pf bioactive molecules, structure elucidation, study of biological activity of new molecules, efficacy of cosmetic products and the development of cosmetic-medical devices products for oncology patients.

SPYROS PAPAGEORGIOU
Spyros Papageorgiou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of West Attica with the subject “Chemistry specializing in Cosmetic Science-Industrial Production of Cosmetics & Medical Devices Products”. He is a graduate of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Ioannina. He holds a PhD from the Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a Postgraduate Master Diploma in Industrial Pharmacy from the Department of Pharmacy of the School of Health Sciences of EKPA. He is a Founding member of the Research Laboratory “Chemistry-Biochemistry-Cosmetology” (https://chembiochemcosm.uniwa.gr/). He participates in 2 postgraduate programs. He has 28 publications in international journals (Google scholar database), 357 citations and an Author h-index: 7. He is an author and reviewer in reputable international scientific journals and author of books and laboratory notes in the Science of Cosmetics and Medical devices products. Has over 28 years of experience in research, development, manufacturing, quality control and evaluation of efficacy and safety in cosmetics and medical devices. He has been for many years Director of Production and Quality Control in cosmetics and medical devices products factories and is a Scientific Advisor to companies for the development, production, quality assurance, legislation and safety assessment of cosmetics, medical devices and dietary supplements. He has developed over 300 finished products that are circulating in Greece and Abroad. Collaborates with research institutes in Greece and abroad (NATIONAL & KAPODISTRIAN UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS, ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI, INTERNATIONAL HELLENIC UNIVERSITY, ELGO DIMITRA, ANDREAS SYNGROS HOSPITAL OF VENEREAL & DERMATOLOGICAL DISEASES, UNIVERSITY OF PAVIA, LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY). His research interests are the development and production of skin care products, “cosmeceuticals”, natural, organic, baby care cosmetics, oral hygiene products, nasal care, sunscreen, biocidal products, medical devices products and dietary supplements, with innovative delivery systems of bioactive substances. The clinical study of their efficacy and toxicological safety, the study of their transdermal absorption and stability and the development of instrumental analytical methods for the determination of the active ingredients in the finished products.

APOSTOLOS PAPADOPOULOS
Apostolos Papadopoulos is a Chemistry Graduate from the University of Bonn (Germany) and has obtained the title of Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) from the same University specializing in peptide chemistry and the synthesis of new active amino acids. He has worked in Greece, in the pharmaceutical industry from 1991 to 1997 as an analyst, in the quality control laboratories of medicines & cosmetics. He then taught as a Laboratory Associate at the TEI of Athens from 1996 to 2018 in the Department of Physics & Chemistry (SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING), the Department of Oenology & Beverage Technology (SCHOOL OF FOOD SCIENCES) and the Department of Aesthetics & Cosmetology (SCHOOL OF HEALTH AND CARE SCIENCES) and for three years at the Sivitanidio School . At the same time, from 1999 to 2006 he worked as an external collaborator in the laboratory of the Department of Radiopharmaceuticals of the Institute of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences of EKEFE Demokritos in matters of organic synthesis and in the Institute of Chemical Biology of the National Research Foundation, in matters of transfer of bioactive compounds to biological membranes. From 2006 to 2019, he worked at the National Medicines Organization with experience as an analyst in quality control, in the cosmetic & other products laboratory, as an evaluator in the evaluation of new pharmaceutical products for licensing and as an inspector in the Circulation Control Department of the Directorate of Inspection. Since 10/2019 he is a faculty member in the position of Lecturer.

KRIEBARTHIS ANASTASIOS
Current position: Associate Professor specializing in “Laboratory Hematology –
Pathophysiology of
Erythrocyte Preservation and Blood Donation” at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health
and Welfare Sciences, University of Western Attica. Director of the Reliability and Quality Control
Research Laboratory in Laboratory Hematology-HemQcR of the Medical Laboratories Sector.
Brief History: Mr. Kriebardis G. Anastasios was initially elected [2010] to the
rank of
Lecturer in the
Department of Medical Laboratories of the Technological Educational Institute [TEI] of Athens and was
promoted [2014] to Assistant Professor. With 2248/15-06-18 he holds an organic position in the
Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of West Attica. He has been retrained in the Fields
of Blood Donation and Immunohematology [2001-2002], in modern laboratory techniques for the
investigation of blood diseases and in the laboratory control of hemostasis disorders [2007], in
strategic management [2006] and in the Neurophysiology of learning [2016, 2017]. The Post-Training
Seminars concern the Academy of Blood Donation [2010], the Panhellenic Association of Biopathology
[2010] and the Institute of Introductory Education [2002]. By decision of the Rector of TEI of Athens,
he was transferred to the Blood Donation Department of the General Hospital of Thira for the
organization and operation of the Hematology and Blood Donation Laboratories [2016]. He was in charge of
the Blood and Derivatives Department and the Quality Control Department at the National Blood Donation
Center [2008-2010]. He served as the person in charge of receiving and sending blood and its derivatives
intended for fractionation at the National Center for the Preparation of Blood Derivatives, “Ilias
Politis” [2001-2008]. He has taught in secondary education as a substitute Professor, PE 18 Specialty
Medical Laboratories, at the 1st TEE Argos [2000-2001] and at the 2nd TEE Loutraki [1999-2000]. He
fulfilled his military obligations at the Armored Training Center [1998-1999].
Research Work: He is the author of seventy-four [74] peer-reviewed papers in
international peer-reviewed
journals with a significant impact index [average impact index/article 4.896 and total impact index
362.281], two [2] monographs and one [1] book. He has four [4] contributions to books and has edited
and/or translated seven [7] books. He has participated with oral and posted presentations in a
significant number of International and National Conferences. He has fifty-six [56] papers in
International refereed conferences and one hundred and eighteen [118] in National refereed conferences.
The published work gathers 2,443 references resulting in an h-index of 23, and an i10-index of 40. The
research work has been awarded fourteen [14] times for both the International Society of Blood
Transfusion and the National [Hellenic Society of Transfusion Therapy and Hellenic Society of
Hematology] presentation of it. He has been [2012-2015] Scientific Manager of the Archimedes III
Program, “Cytobiological study of erythrocytes of patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis” and has
participated in many funded research projects.

FOUNTZOULA CHRISTINA
Dr. Christina Fountzoula is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of West Attica, in “Chemistry and Technology of Materials with Environmental and Biomedical Applications”. She holds a PhD (2001) from the Department of Chemistry, School of Natural Sciences, University of Patras, entitled “Synthesis and study of new catalysts for the selective reduction of nitrogen oxides”. Her research interests focus on the development and study of materials and processes for environmental and biomedical applications. She has 30 publications in international journals and conferences (scopus base) and 571 cross-references.

PILAKOUTA MYROFORA
Mirofora Pilakouta is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of West Attica, with the subject “Measurements with analytical methods of Nuclear Physics and New Technologies in Education”. She is a Physicist (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens 1981) and holds a PhD – Applied Nuclear Physics (University of Patras 1987). She worked as a Scientific Associate in the Applied Nuclear Physics program of the: · Institute of Nuclear Physics of the National Centre of Scientific Research “Demokritos” (1989 – 1993) · Research program: “Study of superconducting and semiconducting materials using applied nuclear and optical methods” of the Greek National Technical University (NTUA) (1994-1996). She was a member of the faculty in the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering of the University of Western Attica and in the Departments of Automation Engineering and Physical Chemistry & Materials Technology of TEI Piraeus (2008-2019). She also taught (1991-2008) as Associate Professor at TEI Piraeus, ASETEM/SELETE and the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon).

BELOUKAS APOSTOLOS
I completed a DPhil in 2010 on Molecular Virology and Molecular Epidemiology of viral infectious agents. Currently, I am an Associate Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Virology, Head and Scientific Director of the of the National AIDS Reference Center of Southern Greece (https://eelno.uniwa.gr/monada-ergastiriakis-epitirisis-hiv-aids-loimoxis-kai-iogenon-ipatitidon/) and Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, both at the University of West Attica. Previously, I have spent 5 years as Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer (2013-2018) at the Institute of Infection and Global Health at the University of Liverpool conducting research, both lab based and in silico, and provided guidance, tutorship and support to junior researchers, undergraduate/postgraduate students and staff. I am interested in infectious diseases with a particular interest in viral infections, and the use of advanced molecular and epidemiological tools for diagnosing, monitoring and tracking viruses and their relevant epidemics. In my research interests are included molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases with particular interest in viral infections, viruses’ evolution and how is driven by genetic variability of the host, as well as evolution of emerging epidemics and the emergence of evolution caused by antimicrobials. At the moment, in my research group in Athens, we study the genetic diversity, evolutionary patterns as well as dispersal of viral epidemics of different viruses including the new SARS-CoV-2. Previously conducted research has been published in leading journals, such as Lancet, JAMA, Lancet Global Health, BMC Medicine, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and Addiction among others with more than 4,200 citations and h-index 28.

CHANIOTIS DIMITRIOS
Dimitrios Chaniotis graduated from the University of Athens Medical School (suma cum laude). He obtained his Doctorate degree (Ph.D.), with first class honours from the University of Athens Medical School. He completed his training in Public Health MSc (National School of Public Health) and Cardiology (Therapeutic Clinic – University of Athens, Medical School) and he is board certified since then. He also was awarded the Diploma of European Cardiologist by the European Board for the Specialty of Cardiology and certified of the “Public Health – Social Medicine” specialty by the Ministry of Health. He has enough publications in International and Greek peer reviewed medical journals and many presentations in medical congresses. He is also co-author in university scientific books and teaching in the fields of Physiology, Cardiology, Nutrition, Internal Medicine, Pharmacology and Geriatric. He participates in postgraduate (MSc) teaching university programs. He received postgraduate and postdoctorate scholarships by the Greek Foundation for State Scholarships (I.K.Y.). He is an active member in many of the Hellenic and European Medical Societies. He was Research Associate in Foundation of Biomedical Research, Academy of Athens and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and also Consultant on Health Education of the Hellenic Foundation of Cardiology and President in Scientific Alumni Society of the National School of Public Health. He was Medical Officer in the Greek Navy military service

KARKALOUSOS PETROS
Petros Karkalousos has studied technology in medical laboratories (Technological Institute of Athens [TEI of Athens]), biology (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens [KNUA]) and statistics (Msc program in the Financial University of Athens). His PhD has to do with the study of time series of control values in clinical chemistry analyzers (medical school, KNUA). He has worked, as an analyst, in clinical laboratories of public hospitals for almost 16 years and 10 years in private diagnostic center as an analyst and quality director. He is teaching clinical chemistry from 2000 in TEI of Athens and the University of West Attica (UNIWA). He is teaching also accreditation of medical laboratories and analysis of urine, sperm and other biological fluids in UNIWA. He participates in five post-graduate programs of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and one in the Hellenic Open University. His research activities have to do with the quality control of clinical laboratories, clinical chemistry and sperm analysis. He is (2023) the director of the laboratory “chemistry, biochemistry, cosmetic science” in UNIWA and the chair of the Working Group of Distance Learning of EFLM (European Federation of Laboratory Medicine). He organizes three life-long education programs (quality control and verification in clinical chemistry, basic spermatologia, environmental certification with ISO 14001).

BALAFOUTA MYRSINI
Born in Athens, Attika. Graduate of the Medical School of the Kapodistrian University of Athens (1988). Specialization in Radiotherapy Oncology (1991) at Aretaieio Hospital and PhD in Radiotherapy (Small cell lung cancer 1991). She worked in st Rafael Hospital in Leuven Belgium (1991-1992), Aretaieio Hospital (1992-2009) and from 2010-2013 as a lecturer in the Radiotherapy department. From 2018-2020 was academic scholar at the Radiology and Radiotherapy division at the Biomedical Sciences Department of University of West Attica. From 2020- today Assistant Professor in the same department. She has participated as a speaker or president at many conferences as well as at the organization of a significant number of Greek conferences and/or scientific meetings. Currently, she is the director of the Division of Radiology and Radiotherapy. She is the author or co-author in 33 research articles.

KARABATSAS COSTAS
Dr Costas Karabatsas MD, DMed(Bristol), MRCOphth, FEBO, FRCS(Ed)Ophth is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology with the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Optics & Optometry), University of West Attica (UNIWA), Athens, Greece. He is also a practicing Consultant Eye Surgeon, specializing in cornea, refractive and glaucoma surgery. He gained his Ophthalmology training and his clinical corneal fellowship in the UK, at the Department of Ophthalmology, Bristol Eye Hospital, where he has also served as a Clinical Lecturer. He was awarded a Doctorate title (Doctor of Medicine, DMed Higher Degree) from the University of Bristol, for his thesis on management of post-keratoplasty astigmatism with the use of computerized topography. He subsequently completed a refractive surgery-LASIK mini Fellowship with the University of Crete, Greece. He has served (1999-2007) as Ass. Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, Larissa University Hospital, Greece, and Head of the Anterior Segment Surgery, Cornea Transplant and Glaucoma Unit. In addition to his clinical role, he is active in research and teaching activities. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers, chapters and books. He has delivered more than 300 lectures, both nationally and internationally. He is a member of AAO, ASCRS, ESCRS and EGS, and also an active member of the Executive Board of the Greek College of Ophthalmology, the Hellenic Eye Bank Demokritus, as well as the General Secretary of the Hellenic Cornea Society. and author of the undergraduate laboratory textbook Experimental Biochemistry (Kalippos 2022), she has
participated in the translation of the WHO textbook “Analysis and handling of semen samples”, in the
editing of thebooks “Inorganic Analysis”, “Biochemistry-Basic Principles”, “Lehninger Basic Principles
of Biochemistry”, “Biochemistry”. She has 26 publications in international journals, 25 papers in

Dr. Helen Skaltsa is Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products, School of Pharmacy, University of Athens. In 1981, she graduated as a pharmacist from the .University of Athens, School of Pharmacy, with full marks. In 1985, she supported her PhD thesis entitled "Phytochemical investigation of Ocimum basilicum L." under the supervision of Prof. S. Philianos. In 1988, she had post doc studies at the «Laboratoire de la Recherche Thérapeutique en Cancérologie», Université de Nantes, France, on a 6 months scholarship. There, she was trained in the techniques of in vitro testing for anticancer activity. In 1988, she was elected as a lecturer of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products at the University of Athens. In 1993, she was promoted to the position of Assistant Professor. In 1994 and 1997, she worked for 6 months at the University of Valencia, Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, specializing in the chemistry of naturally occurring terpenes. In 2000, she worked for 3 months at Laboratory of Prof. O. Sticher, Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. In this excellent scientific environment, she had the chance to further complete her knowledge on the chemistry of natural products. In 2003, she was promoted to the position of Associate Professor. He has been for a number of years a laboratory and scientific partner of the TEI of Athens and an academic scholar of PADA, with independent theoretical teaching in various fields of the knowledge subject of Cosmetology, such as Research and Development of Cosmetic Products, Quality Control of Cosmetic Products and Effectiveness of Cosmetic Products, Production of cosmetic products. He is a co-author of the laboratory notes on Quality Control of Cosmetic Products taught at PADA, in the Department of Aesthetics and Cosmetology (6th semester). He teaches at the PMS of the School of Medicine, EKPA in the subject of the treatment of photoaging with antioxidant substances. He has taken part in research projects and collaborated with cosmetic companies to develop and test the effectiveness of cosmetic products. He has 10 publications, 322 cross-references (scopus) and presentations at 24 international and pan-Hellenic conferences. Due to her involvement in the research and development of cosmetic products, the study of antioxidant ingredients and her research on the production of personal care products from renewable sources, we recommend that she undertake the independent teaching of the individual lectures listed in the PMS assignment handbook “ADVANCED AESTHETICS AND COSMETOLOGY: DEVELOPMENT-QUALITY CONTROL AND SAFETY OF NEW COSMETIC PRODUCTS”

PAVLOU PANAGOULA
Pavlou Panagoula is an Academic Scholar of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Western Attica, specializing in Cosmetology. He is a pharmacist (EKPA) and holder of a Master’s Degree entitled “Study of skin absorption of polyphenolic compounds of white and red must” and a Doctoral Degree entitled “”The effect of ultraviolet radiation and cigarette smoke on the skin. Inhibition of the harmful consequences with the antioxidant pycnogenol” of the Faculty of Pharmacy EKPA. As a Post-Doctor of the Department of Pharmacy, she contributed to the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students and to the writing of laboratory notes for the courses of the PMS “Cosmetology-Dermatopharmacology”, Department of Pharmacy, EKPA. He has been a laboratory and scientific associate of TEI-A while he has also held a PADA academic scholarship and an NSPA scholarship at PADA in the field of Cosmetology. Her research interests are the development of new cosmetic products and the study of efficacy. In the “Cosmetology-Dermatopharmacology” unit of the Pharmaceutical Technology laboratory, he contributed to the formulation of active substances in topical forms. From 2001 to 2004 she worked as Research and Development Laboratory Manager of the raw materials company for cosmetics “CELLCO CHEMICAL”. In 2014, he founded the company PHARMADERMICS and is the Responsible Person for the development and marketing of the HYDERMIS cosmetic line in the pharmacy sector. He has research articles and conference presentations. Based on her research experience, her work in the R&D area of a cosmetics company, the establishment of her own cosmetics development and distribution company and her independent teaching in the PADA undergraduate program in the field of Cosmetology as well as her teaching in the PMS “Cosmetology-Dermatopharmacology” of of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Greek Academy of Sciences, we recommend the assignment of the aforementioned lectures to the PMS “ADVANCED AESTHETICS AND COSMETICS: DEVELOPMENT-QUALITY CONTROL AND SAFETY OF NEW COSMETIC PRODUCTS
TSOTSOU GEORGIA ELENI
Georgia Tsotsou has a first degree in Chemistry (AUTH, Greece, 1996), MSc in Environmental Sciences (University of Strathclyde, UK, 1997), PhD in Biochemistry (Imperial College, UK, 2001) and postdoctoral studies in pharmaceutical research, protein characterization , pharmacokinetics, biotransformations, catalysis, cosmetology and clinical analysis, in academic institutions and industries in France, Germany and Greece. Georgia Tsotsou has been teaching Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Cosmetology at PADA since 2008 and has supervised the final thesis or internship of more than 35 undergraduate and graduate students.

PATITSA MARIA
Maria Patitsa has a degree in chemistry (Kapodistrian University of Athens) and a PhD (KU Leuven, Belgium). He has worked in the private sector as a chemist for companies such as Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Aniva International (skin care products, nutritional supplements) and has experience in product development within high specifications, supply chain and production control. Her research interests are deposition and characterization of thin films, sensor development for chemical analysis, and nanoparticle actuation. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Research Foundation for the development of a chemical sensor and at the Medical Biological Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens for the development of nanomedicine for breast cancer.
